Why Do We Sleep?
Do you know why you need sleep? I mean, it’s probably to allow your thoughts to detoxify and your body to rejuvenate, etc. But in scientific terms, research professionals are still yet to put their finger on exactly why we need it.
On average, you wake up around six times per night. Unless you’re one of those lucky ones who sleeps straight through. It’s people like me that are keeping the average up for you lazy bastards
[1]..A study once showed that people who have 6-7 hours sleep per night, typically live longer than somebody who has 8.
[2]..Both whales and dolphins are only ever half asleep. Each hemisphere of their brains work in shifts to ensure that they don’t tune out completely and forget to surface breathe.
[3].Sans Sleep Record.
Randy Gardner set the record for going the longest without sleep. He lasted 264 hours and 12 minutes. We’re sure the 12 minutes bit was important. I’d like to know how long he slept for after that. Also, surely there are undocumented cases of drug addicts going longer than that…
[4]..Sleeping Pills.
Back in 2006, there were over 44 million sleeping pills handed out by doctors in the United States alone. That was more than double that of the handful of years leading up to 2006. That was also the year Bush was elected to a second term. We don’t know if there’s a link or not.People who were born blind don’t see images in their dreams. How could they?
[5]..Since the average lifespan of a mattress is about 6 years, that leaves a lot of time for it to gather some pretty awful stuff. There was one study which found a link between the things that grow on a mattress and sudden infant death syndrome.
