If the national interests are high enough, and I think this is the mistake that [North Korean leader] Kim Jong-un needs really to think about, if you start pressing on an issue that has to do with the survival of the United States against a nuclear attack, the tragic becomes conceivable to stop it. It could be tragic.”
Mr Locklear’s views were then echoed by Admiral Timothy J Keating, another former commander of Pacific Command.
The situation in North Korea is imploding, and the statement warned the situation could “erupt with little warning”.
“A North Korean missile has successfully re-entered the atmosphere, a significant step in its ICBM tech.
“Many assets have been moved into the area, and North Korea continues to advance its nuclear program.
“North Korea is also building artificial islands and installing military installations on them.
